Joseph Condo
Joseph A. Condo is the senior and founding partner of Condo Kelly and Byrnes, P.C. He attended Catholic University School of Law and was admitted to the bar in 1973.
Joe Condo is recognized as one of the most accomplished and proficient family-law attorneys in Virginia. He has been included in all of Washingtonian Magazine's lists of the Washington area's best divorce lawyers since the mid-1980's, most recently described in the magazine's February 2009 issue as a "Virginia legend" who "knows how it's done." He has been chosen by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America, beginning with its first edition in 1983 and continuing in each edition since. In 2001, Joe was the recipient of one his profession's highest honors when he was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers, a prestigious, invitation-only lawyers' organization whose membership is limited to one percent of the lawyers practicing in each state.
Joe has also achieved distinction in service to his profession. He has been president of both the Virginia State Bar (2000-01) and the Fairfax Bar Association (1985-86), has chaired the family-law sections of both organizations, and has served a total of twenty years on the state bar's governing Council. He is a frequent lecturer at continuing-education programs for both lawyers and judges, and is proud to be prominently featured in a video that is shown to all newly-admitted Virginia lawyers as part of a mandatory course on professionalism.
Joe's practice style is characterized by informality and directness. He believes that a frank appraisal of the strengths - and the weaknesses - of a case is among the most valuable sevices he can offer a client. Joe thinks of himself as a problem-solver who looks for creative and innovative ways to resolve his clients' cases. He is able to quickly absorb and analyze the details of a case while keeping an eye on "the big picture."
Joe recognizes that, for most clients, the best and most cost-effective result is achieved outside of court. He explores the possibility of settlement in every case, and often participates in mediation or other means of alternative dispute resolution. But not every case can be resolved through negotiation, and Joe is an able and effective litigator. He has tried hundreds of cases dealing with the issues of custody and relocation; the analysis of the incomes of self-employed individuals; business and professional-practice valuations; and tracing of assets and sources of funds. He also has extensive appellate experience.
Joe Condo is highly regarded by his colleagues in the Northern Virginia legal community, as well as by the judges before whom he appears. They know him to be a person of character and integrity and a passionate advocate for his clients, and these traits also describe the other professionals in the law firm he founded.
